Sometimes life takes you on a wonderful – and surprising – path. I believe you find that path if you can take a chance and try something new. When I started my career in hospitality more than 20 years ago, I would never have guessed I was in training for a storytelling company. But I was.
Working the front desk taught me about people and how to treat people with care and respect. When I moved into sales, I learned about the importance of not only connecting with people but connecting with what they cared about. Finally, in Catering and Convention Services, I was able to bring service and sales to project management. I worked out the little details to bring a client’s vision to life. I was good at what I did and I was proud of the results.
I made a tough decision to leave hospitality so I could focus on doing another job well, being a mom. When I needed work back in my life, I had no idea what I would do. Go back to hotels? Look for something more casual, just to “get out of the house?” Neither felt right.
And here is where the path presented itself. I saw an ad for Perfect Pitch. The posting seemed to have nothing to do with what I had done before, but I took chance and responded. Now I not only use all the skills I honed in hospitality, I have also discovered a new passion. For storytelling. In my role I connect with people, and what they care about. I work out all the little details to help Perfect Pitch clients find their path – to engagement, to connection, to what it means to be human. It’s a wonderful path and I am proud to be on it. Who knew?
